Welcome to the "Forum without a Name"

Postby Neill on Fri Oct 10, 2008 8:38 pm

Welcome to the „Forum without a Name“. we still need a good name that explains succinctly what we are here for and would welcome any suggestions.

2008 was the first year that the Open University offered the course „T214 Understanding Systems“. This course had a variety of active forums only open to Students, course team and tutors. The most popular was the Social Forum.

At the end of the year there were approximately 30 students expressing an interest in continuing their Systems Studies in 2009 with the course „T306 Managing Complexity“. This forum was founded to fill the gap that they felt would be left by the loss of „their“ forums..

If you find the forum helpful, great - that is what we hoped for. If you have suggestions to improve it then please post them here.

Have fun!
Neill

Hi Neill

Thank you for the welcome and for setting up this forum.

Maybe we should choose five names and then take a vote?

Hi Neill
I feel I am here under false pretences because I have absolutely no intention of doing T306, but all the action is here, I will join in on a social front until it becomes very T306 orientated. :|
Love the smilies, but can't think of a name for forum.

Hi All

Thanks to Neil for taking the time to set this up!

Will try and pop in now and then, in attempt to keep my brain thinking along systems lines! :) :ugeek:

Never any good at names - but thought I would use the terms I found most interesting / useful during T214 and came up with 'holistic degrees of freedom'

Cheers

@ Chris

... under false pretences.
I don't think so. Most of the posts don't even mention T306 yet.
Nice to have you here anyway.

message to new potential participants.

Hello, you've read this far, so you're curious :-) Please stay.

If you've had a look round the site and thought *gulp* ' whooaa, no idea what's going on there ' please do not be alarmed. There's some stuff in here which at first glance might seem a bit like people speaking a strange foreign language. However what you have stumbled upon ( been dragged/cajoled into) is a little gold mine... er, ok maybe not an Actual gold mine.. but a place of great potential usefulness. Systems thinking is not just about systems thinking. It's more about learning how to join the dots in every area of everything. which could be fun. If you are interested in what 'systems' is, or what 'systems thinking' is, then stay.. but perhaps you are more interested in what it 'does', or even 'how can it help me?'. To find out... sign up. 8-)

Hi Neill (and all T214 survivors),

I couldn't resist visiting the site and was so impressed I've joined up! Like Chris I have no intention of doing T306, at the moment anyway, but am planning to do U316 which I imagine will need quite a bit of systems type thinking too.

I hope it will be a great success, Liz.
