are there any TU811ers out there?

Postby Helen on Wed Oct 27, 2010 7:51 pm

Hi there
just wondering how many of us have managed to transfer over from the course forum?

I'll post to the course forum - it is still running but there is not much activity. Worth a try. I think people have either moved onto TU812 (lots of activity on that forum at the moment - I am spending more time networking than studying!) OR run away from systems altogether!

Like TU811, there's been a huge amount of interest in TU812, with 107 students registering for its first presentation. These numbers are exceptional at postgraduate level! So it certainly seems as if many TU811 students want to pursue their studies in systems thinking and practice and have gone straight into TU812 :-)

Hello Helen

Good to see you over here. I think Andrea may be right that some of the TU811 students have gone into TU812 directly. But judging by my student list, its actually full of students who have not done TU811....they've come straight in. So, well maybe we did lose some people.

I'll perhaps ask one of the national forum moderators on TU812 to post a reminder about the systems place.

Hello Rupesh,
Nice that at least two of you made it here.
So now I can ask - what is TU811?
I have read the official story but would appreciate the unofficial story.
Thanks

Hard work but worth it like most OU courses. We covered five different complementary systems approaches:
- systems dynamics
- viable systems model
- SODA
- soft systems methodology
- critical systems heuristics

each one is covered in terms of its intellectual/academic foundations, how to use and do, relevant diagramming. I had done some systems stuff before so some of it was familiar but this was a lot more in-depth.

I have to be honest there were a lot of first presentation teething problems but the course team received all the feedback in good spirit and we are reassured a lot of it will be taken on board. Those problems were slightly vague TMA instructions - and the EMA as well.

any specific questions?

Hello Arwen,
It is good that you found us. Big place the Web isn't it.
I did not actually do TU811 - not that I am here under false pretenses :-)
Sometimes we do talk about systems :-) and I hope you will join in.
Feel free to take a look at some old threads. Some have really given me food for thought.
