Good luck to everybody embarking of T214 this Feb, It's good to see so many here in the systems place this year.

It is a great course although you may not think so at some points. :) Venture here to share queries, moans, groans and triumphs!

Sounds like at least one person is enjoying it.
Are the forums still as lively?

Well, I've read a few pages of Linked and already the in-bred reductionist in me is surfacing. We'll see where this leads me!

I've started a blog over on Wordpress if anyone is interested: http://connectingeverything.wordpress.com/ - the OU blogging tool is just too cumbersome for my liking and I like the tools available by Wordpress.

Has anyone used the Firefox plugin Zotero before? I think it'd be useful as a research tool - just wondering if I'd benefit from spending an hour or so in trying to figure out how it works

I use Zotero and while I'm definitely not using all it's capabilities I find it useful.

I doubt it'll take ore than half an hour to get to grips with it.

If you're planning on diong ANY academic research in future I'd say it's well worth trying it out.

Thanks Jim. I'll give it a go :)

I'll be taking T306 next year so I'll get some good use out of it for sure, and I've already been looking at some post-graduate courses for a potential MSc (post 2014!). It does look very good for what I want to do

I am using Google Sites to collate information for my research degree.
rupununi.hogarth.de
I also have a few Google Docs on the go for information that is too "sensitive" to publish - mainly the "he said that she..." sort of stuff.

Does that produce a bibliographic reference list from sites that you collate? that's the main boon that Zotero offers for me. I can have folders relating to individual TMAs, EMAs or projects which each contain links to the various online resources, documents, etc.

When I'm ready to I can just click, create reference list, and out if pops.

This is the area I would otherwise skip in a TMA and lifts the mark by about 15-20% I reckon.

I use Zotero and while I'm definitely not using all it's capabilities I find it useful.

So I installed it and have got it working in Firefox on my "big home computer.

I doubt it'll take ore than half an hour to get to grips with it.

That was about right. I can now save things.
But ...
I actually use Chrome.
I suppose I could use Firefox but having got used to the speed and typical Google minimalistic interface, I am loath to do so.
So I will need a few more hours, days, or whatever to get something working.
But that is what stops you getting bored.

If you're planning on diong ANY academic research in future I'd say it's well worth trying it out.

I am so I will.

Thanks for the tip
